The greater Boston area aims to reduce carbon emissions from existing buildings by retrofitting at least 80 percent of those buildings over the next 30 years. A recent market report shows this brings about significant opportunities for Dutch companies. Curious to see what’s in it for your company? Meet some of the key Bostonian stakeholders on January 20 to hear their take on this and ask your questions.

Boston faces many of the same climate, population, and infrastructure challenges as the Netherlands. Also aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, the city is increasingly held up as a model of urban climate resilience in the United States. As the City of Boston and surrounding cities aim to meet ambitious decarbonization goals in the next few decades, energy retrofits to buildings, which account for approx. 71% of community carbon emissions in Boston alone, represent significant opportunity.

Market scan

In September 2019, a group of Dutch companies with solutions for sustainable building and energy systems visited the region to explore these opportunities and present their expertise. The Dutch technologies led to great interest amongst the American stakeholders, which signaled the need for more sophisticated hard tech, but also comprehensive solutions, in the Boston market. In order to further explore this a study was commissioned.

The resulting market scan, which is available through this link, identifies a range of high-potential opportunities in Greater Boston for Dutch technology providers in this sector, on the base of policy analysis, broad economic opportunity assessment, and market status overview of key technology areas, such as alternative heating, energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, energy storage, and smart software solutions.
